Noel woke up refreshed, warm, and surrounded by dogs.

He really could get used to this.

He stretched, flopped around and petted the dogs, and finally got around to checking his phone to see what time it was. As it was nearing six o’clock, he decided he should probably take Roz for her next walk before Barrett got home.

He decided to stay in his sweats and hoodie since he’d just be going around the block, and he headed downstairs with the dogs all in tow. He let them out into the backyard to go potty and then he got the leash and harness for Roz ready.

He let the dogs play for a bit before he called them back in. They saw the leash in Noel’s hand and promptly zoomed over to the front door. All three dogs lined up as if expecting to go for a walk too, their tags wagging frantically.

“Aw, guys.” Noel cringed. “Sorry, guys. It’s just me and Roz going. But I promise when Daddy gets home, we’ll all go for a walk together, okay?”

Brutus howled.

Noel ignored him as he got Roz into the harness, teasing, “He’s fussy, huh?”

Roz barked in agreement.

Noel managed to wiggle out the front door without Sasha or Brutus following, although he heard Brutus’s howling all the way down the block. He let Roz take the lead, as she seemed to know where to go, and fell into a leisurely stroll behind her.

This was only the start of his week with Barrett and already Noel could see himself doing this for the rest of his life.

He touched the collar and smiled.

Especially after everything Amy had told him earlier, he was certain that this was but the start of something very special. He couldn’t explain the strong attraction he felt toward Barrett, but he wanted to be his forever. The depth of his feelings was startling considering how new they were, but he didn’t question it.

After all, he’d fallen for his stupid ex-boyfriend in only a few days, so he thought it was perfectly normal to feel like this so soon.

Or he really was just crazy.

Noel snorted.

Nah.

Okay, but maybe.

Noel and Roz had already made it around the block and were now walking the last few yards back to the house. Roz was tugging a bit more now, no doubt ready to get home and relax.

There was a large man in a black tracksuit walking toward them on the sidewalk.

Noel moved over a few steps and steered Roz to walk directly in front of him so they could pass by. He’d hoped that the man would move over some too, but the man was still walking right in the middle of the sidewalk.

What an asshole.

Noel didn’t want to go onto the street with Roz and they were already so close to the house, but he wasn’t sure what to do because this jerk wouldn’t budge.

All too late did he realize that the man was coming right for them.

Roz growled, and Noel froze.

The man had a black eye…

Wait, he was the same man Barrett had punched out at the William the other night.
